Travel Support

Travel Bursaries & Scholarships

We’re committed to making the conference accessible to a diverse range of delegates. A limited number of travel bursaries/scholarships are available to support eligible attendees to participate in the conference in person.

These bursaries are intended to help reduce barriers to attendance and may contribute toward transport, accommodation and/or registration costs for successful applicants.

Please note: virtual participation will not be offered, so all supported recipients must be able to attend in person.

Who should apply?

Travel funding is designed to support applicants who would otherwise struggle to attend, including:

    • Community leaders
    • Emerging researchers / early-career researchers
    • Delegates from rural, regional and remote communities

We also welcome applications from practitioners and community organisations whose work aligns with the conference theme “Healthy Cities for All: Equity, Innovation and Action” and the broader WHO Healthy Cities movement.

Key Dates

Applications Open: Wednesday 15 April 2026

Applications Close: Friday 29 May 2026

Applicants Notified: Mid-June

What the bursary may support

Bursaries are intended to contribute to costs directly related to attending the conference, such as:

    • Travel/transport (e.g., flights, long-distance rail, mileage equivalents)
    • Accommodation
    • Registration fees

Because bursaries are limited, support may be partial rather than full—we encourage applicants to outline all other funding sources (if any) in the application.

How to apply

To apply, complete the Travel Bursary Application Form and provide the following:

    1. Your details (name, organisation/affiliation, role, location)
    2. Your applicant category (e.g., community leader, emerging researcher)
    3. Your participation plan (attending, presenting, poster, workshop etc.)
    4. Expected impact (how attendance will benefit your work/community and how you’ll share learnings)

Applications will be assessed competitively and funding is limited.

How applications are assessed

Applications are generally prioritised based on:

      • Demonstrated financial need / barriers to attendance
      • Alignment with the conference aims and theme
      • Benefit/impact to communities, policy, practice, or research translation
      • Representation from rural, regional and remote areas

If you’re successful

Successful applicants will receive instructions on how to confirm acceptance and any conditions of support.

To help the conference meet its reporting and accountability requirements, recipients may be asked to provide supporting information such as receipts and/or a short post-conference reflection/outcomes summary (e.g., what you learned and how you’ll apply it). This supports event reporting and record-keeping obligations.
